Woo Yay!

I've just put together my first PC from scratch... with some invaluble verbal support from jikatal and only occasional mild annoyances from air_bizkit I'm sat here listening to the hum of the Athlon 2500xp I just put together.

Out of the packages they were delivered in.

This was rather daunting at first, but, I started, and before I knew it the chip was greased up and it was in the motherboard with heatsink & fan firmly attatched.
Then I realised the hard bit was done, and I found it fairly easy too. Woo Yay! Go Me.

The only likely possibility incompatibility-wise is that the motherboard can't supply the correct voltage to the AGP card. Try the card in another machine?

As for dual booting - I've always found using 2 hard drives makes for an easier life ;)

The motherboard instructions just say not to use 3V cards as these may cause permanent damage to the motherboard. But as its an 8x AGP card it should be at 0.8V so that shouldn't be a problem. Maybe I should instruct the BIOS to run at 2x or 4x or whatever to see if 1.5V works

Another issue is that my games machine now has a graphics card problem as well. Boots up the XP loading screen and when it comes to the bit to change to a higher resolution just get a black screen, monitor reports no signal, computer hangs, Ctl-Alt-Del doesn't reboot. F**king computers. I only moved it as my server failed to load XP on 2 separate CD drives and I wanted to use the CD drive from the games machine. Tried all the obvious things like reseating the graphics card, checking all the cables. Works ok in safe mode. Know any good games that play in safe mode?
