& i'm not sure i want to take 1.2K£'s worth of camera clubbing anyway..

I'm sure you can get some cool pictures with one of those, but I'm not sure it's what you were after when you posted yesterday - the IS Pro will detect UV radiation and record it in a form that is visible to human eyes, whereas you were asking for a source of UV light that would cause objects and people to fluoresce in the visible spectrum, so pictures can be taken with any camera.

Personally, if I couldn't get a UV flash, then I'd try to use a UV light source and a normal flash, possibly with a diffuser if the normal flash was too bright and masking the fluorescence.
